Katherine Palmer and her husband Rick own and operate Palmerworks Design, a website design and hosting company. The writing and design duo provide Detroit-area individuals and small businesses with a variety of professional services, including logo design, business cards, brochures, newsletters, marketing materials, and branding strategies. The company also provides learning management site design and set up for online training providers.
Katherine believes that good writing is at the heart of a professional website.
"Many graphic and web designers can produce a stylish site, but have no aptitude for the written word," says Katherine. "Without succinctly written text, websites lose their ability to sell your product or service."
Katherine has been a professional writer for more than 15 years. She turned her love for reading into successful writing endeavors while earning her Bachelor's Degree in English at the University of Michigan in the early 1990s. Encouragement from her instructors led Katherine to enter several college and university writing contests. Her awards are listed below.
In 1995, Katherine was chosen as the University of Michigan Dearborn English Department's Honor Scholar.That same year, she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree With High Distinction and was awarded the James B. Angell Scholar Undergraduate Excellence Award in 1995 and 1996.
Upon earning her degree, Katherine was hired by Effective Training Inc., a local business owned by design engineer and geometric tolerancing expert, Alex Krulikowski. The company provides GD&T training to companies and organizations throughout the world. Katherine writes, proofreads and edits technical engineering textbooks, workbooks, and training software. She also provides web content, designs marketing materials, and produces the company blog, marketing emails and enewsletter.
In 2002, Katherine and Rick started Palmerworks Web Design company in Edgewater, Maryland. The company relocated to the Detroit area in 2006. A year later, they branched out into hosting sites, as well as providing print design and writing services.
Palmerworks Design's mission is to provide highly personalized service to every client. They work closely with clients when designing and writing new website content, and they utilize a variety of marketing strategies to assist each small business client in establishing a viable internet identity.
